Subject: Fort Collins Kite Festival & Thunderbird jets! :< Major question here - i've recently heard that there will be an air show at the fort collins/loveland (colorado) on April 22 & 23rd which will include the Thunderbird flying team! The Fort Collins kite festival is also scheduled for April 22nd :< WHAT is this going to do to the kite festival - is it completely out of the flight path and will be able to avoid any problems during the air show?? I was not a happy camper to learn this! they were at Jefferson county airport (broomfield) last year and talk about low! (okay - and loud too but that's expected) I mean i enjoyed watching it from my yard - but then i wasn't trying to fly kites that day either. I've been off the "net" for a couple weeks - sorry if this has already been brought up - and discussed. if you wish to email me send it to: karlaroo@genie.com as i check my mail on GEnie several times during the day. thanks - karla & Art newsome = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Date: Tue, 18 Apr 1995 07:25:46 -1000 From: Kenneth Yoder Message-Id: Organization: Colorado State University, Fort Collins, CO 80523 Subject: Re: Fort Collins Kite Festival & Thunderbird jets! :< On 17 Apr 1995, Art and Karla Newsome wrote: > Major question here - > > i've recently heard that there will be an air show at the fort > collins/loveland (colorado) on April 22 & 23rd which will include > the Thunderbird flying team! > > The Fort Collins kite festival is also scheduled for April 22nd :< > > WHAT is this going to do to the kite festival - is it completely > out of the flight path and will be able to avoid any problems during > the air show?? > The kite festival is on the west side of Ft. Collins up against the foothills. It is at Hughes Stadium which is near several housing areas. I doubt if the jets will be allowed to fly low over the city. We have never had a problem with the jets over Ft. Collins when there were other air shows. Make a weekend of it!! Come and fly on Sat. and then stay for the air show on Sunday! :-) (By the way, the airport is about 15-20 miles south of Ft. Collins.) That airport is out along I-25, probably at least 7 miles south of Fort Collins. On the other hand, Hughes Stadium is up next to the foothills on the west side of Fort Collins. I would guess there is at least 15 miles between the two events. What I have a concern about, is with all the rain and snow we have been having and still forcasted, is the kite festival still going to go on? If it is to be in the Hughes Stadium parking lot, which is a nice large field, it will likely be muddy. Hope to see you there if its still a go. The city of Ft. Collins is concerned about liability, etc. I'm going to check it out tonight and tomorrow and will post if it is NOT a go. If we don't get much more rain/snow we should be OK.
