		       ALAN ADVENTURE LANGUAGE

			     Release 2.5

The Alan System is a special purpose computer language for creating
interactive fiction or text adventures. It consists of a compiler
which compiles Alan source to an intermediate form and an interpreter
that interprets such an intermediate form to allow playing of the
game.

The Alan System is request-ware. The complete system is available
without charge through electronic mail on request from

	alan-request@softlab.se

Send a message with a single line like:

	SEND <text>

for documentation, where <text> is one of TEXT or POSTSCRIPT for plain
ascii or PostScript versions of the documentation, or

	SEND <platform>

for a complete distribution including documentation, demos and
executables for <platform>, where platform currently is one of:

	AMIGA
	SUN
	PC
	VMS
	MAC
	HP

The PC version supports MS-DOS and OS/2. Packages are distributed as
archives in various formats depending on platform.

You may add the word ALAN or ARUN after the <platform> to indicate if
only the compiler or only the interpreter package should be
delivered. Otherwise both will be delivered. E.g. SEND AMIGA ALAN will
only send the compiler package for Amiga, whilst SEND MAC will deliver
both the compiler and the interpreter packages for Mac.

If you have the complete interpreter package you need only to request
the compiler package from the above address.

Complete interpreter packages are available using email as above or
using ftp at:

	ftp.gmd.de	if-archive/programming/alan

The interpreter package contains the documentation, some examples and
the interpreter and is freely distributable. Please forward this to
friends or copy it onto any FTP-sites.

NOTE however that the compiler package is NOT freely distributable,
and is only available by use of email (as described above) or through
postal mail (contact <thoni@softlab.se> for terms). Each compiler
package will automatically be registered on the requestor.

For complete copying conditions refer to the file COPYING in the
distribution.

You may contact the authors on the following email addresses:

Happy Authoring!
