PORTAL, by Rob Swigart, was in fact a very early example of hypertext
fiction. It was published by Activision, marketed as a game (an error,
IMHO), and is now, regrettably, out of print.

Swigart continues to work in interactive fiction and poetry, and we hope
to include one of his recent hypertextual poems in an upcoming issue of
the Eastgate Quarterly.
