Hi all,

Got back an old 3MB 286 witha conner 40MB hard drive from my brother
the other day and I thought I'd put Minix on it to make it quasi
useful. So I downloaded the sources and formatted the drive and
initiated the installation (read all the docs, really).

Unfortunately it is dying when it attempts to break up the primary
Minix partition into the a and c partitions, with something along
the lines of

unrecoverable error on device 3/314 blah blah
mkfs: not enough space on minor device

or something along these lines... (this is on a 40MB partition, much
more than enough)

I'm not sure I understand what the problem is, I read the FAQ and it
doesn't help, I tried all sorts of combinations with drive sizes,
including installing the system to a 10MB sub partition, which
seems to work, only when I try to boot it tels me the partition
is not bootable.

I have a feeling I am doing something wrong with "part". My method of
using it is to set the size of the partition and allow it to calculate
the rest of the parameters automatically. There does not seem to be an
option for making a partition bootable though.

Thanks for any help. I'd hate to have to put DOS on this machine...
