After removal of the 'reversepath' operator (which appears to have
very little impact on the results), I ran both DEC Display PS and
GhostScript on the same DECstation3100. The first invocation always
takes substantial more time to complete, while the second (and
subsequent) runs are almost as fast. Only the results for the second
runs are presented.
