     EDITING UIS: INPUT/OUTPUT FILES

These items should be used whenever any type of file is to
be read or written by the program that you are creating.
The "INPUT FILE" and "OUTPUT FILE" buttons operate simi-
larly. To add a new input file or output file item in your
pane, click on the desired button. This will pop-up a list
of the -I or -O template items that you can add. Click on
the item in the list that you want. Once you have done
this, you can begin editing the fields in the bottom two
     thirds of the composer form.

If you have an existing -I or -O item, and wish to add
another, you have the option of copying an existing item or
adding a new one. To add a new item, just click on the
"INPUT FILE" or "OUTPUT FILE" button. The list that pops up
will have a new template item as the last entry on the list.

If you wish to copy an existing item, click on the "COPY"
button. This will give you a list of all items on the pane
that you are editing. Select the -I or -O line in the list
that you wish to copy. A new line will be created with a
position that is below the selected item.

After a -I or -O line is selected, edit the fields in the
composer form to meet your requirements. The fields both
determine the appearance of the graphical user interface
(the pane) and the command line user interface. Though you
can immediately view the pane, ghostwriter must be run
before you can examine the command line user interface.

There are several conventions to follow for the input/output
files. Input files should be positioned above output files,
with all other items placed below. The variable or command
line argument flag should usually be an "i" for a single
input file and an "o" for an output file. If you have more
than one file, the first one should be "i1" followed by
"i2", "i3", etc. If the file is a mask input viff image,
"-m" is typically used. If the file is an ascii output
     file, "-f" is typically used.

     NOTE THE FOLLOWING:
The "Default File" should usually be set to no filename
     (empty string).
The "Live" option field should not be used for cantata pane
     files.
