I would love do, but I failed and don't see a possibility at the
moment. :-( 
Wolfram Gloger, the developer of malloc for glibc wants to
look at it (he's also trying it for Emacs) but I haven't heard any
success stories so far :-(.

If anybody wants to try to get --use-system-malloc working with glibc
and also with libc 5.4.24+, I can send some patches which definitly
are not working but give a start.
