I think we should be very careful with new global bindings.  I mean
*very* careful.

Once we decide to take up a binding, it is not a light matter to
remove it, or assign it to something else -- anyone remember the `M-g'
discussions?

Personally, I think `write-region' on `C-x w' would be fine for me.
Traditionally, `C-x w' is one of the free keys, and many people bind
`what-line' to it.

So, I don't think it's a good idea to bind it by default.
