I don't think it uses ncurses in any sane way.

Regarding that, Karl has opened a good question -- why shouldn't
XEmacs simply utilize curses to do the ugly job of TTY optimization?
OK, some ancient systems still wouldn't optimize, but that looks like
a good solution to me.

Chuck, do you think something like that would be possible?
