Yes, but I don't see anything consistent about it (it is repeatable).
XEmacs appears to keep the terminal device open after gnuclient exits.

The last part of stracing it goes:

socket(PF_UNIX, SOCK_STREAM, , 0)       = 4
geteuid()                               = 501
connect(4, {sun_family=AF_UNIX, sun_path="/tmp/gsrvdir501/gsrv"}, 22) = 0
getpid()                                = 31634
write(4, "(gnuserv-edit-files \'(tty \"/de"..., 54) = 54
write(4, ")", 1)                        = 1
write(4, ")", 1)                        = 1
write(4, "\4", 1)                       = 1
read(4, "(error Terminal type `foo\' unde"..., 1024) = 65
read(4, "", 1024)                       = 0
_exit(0)                                = ?

and the following appears in a *Warnings* buffer.

(1) (error/warning) Error in process filter: (error Terminal type `foo' undefined (or can't access database?))

(2) (error/warning) Error in process filter: (error Terminal type `foo' undefined (or can't access database?))

(3) (error/warning) Error in process filter: (error Terminal type `foo' undefined (or can't access database?))
