nntp may work fine however following problems may occur:

  - mail folder will be broken if non Latin-1 message is received
  - non Latin-1 mail message may not to be displayed
  - non Latin-1 strings may not to be displayed in summary

Your Gnus seems to be applied "SEMI patch", so these problems are
solved.

;; gnus-mime for tm solves these problems to redefine some Gnus
;; functions. However it is unnatural and not complete. RMAIL of
;; Emacs 20.1 has "SEMI patch" like features, so I decided to change
;; to such implementations. It may be complete and faster in Emacs
;; 20.1 and XEmacs/mule.
