What is XpmFree? I don't have any installed on my systems.
I do have the xpm library installed though, in /usr/local/lib.
As correctly observed the SGI delivered xpm is broken but the workaround
has for me always been to use --site-includes=/usr/local/include and
--site-libraries=/usr/local/lib (this is still in the PROBLEMS file I think)
