I'll give the Motif one a try. If it works, I'll know that it's an
issue with the xlib implementation, if not, it's probably a Linux
issue. (The gut on TLUG that's trying it is using an old version of X, 
so he may be a bad data point...)

I'll let you know if I figure anything out with respect to the xlib
implementation.

This is what I wanted to know, whether it worked at all. (If not, I
wouldn't bother looking into the problem.)

You're right, I was typing from memory. Usually, I copy and paste it from 
the kinput man page.

Are you using kinput2?  Solaris 2.6beta comes with a program called
htt, but I haven't figured out how to get it to work with kterm.  I
tried adding the resource

   *inputMethod: itt

but it still doesn't do anything when I press <Ctrl>Space.
