    I already posted a detailed report earlier (and also once before,
    during the reign of 19.14).  I understand that Steve (and earlier Ben)
    agreed that it is a bug, but it isn't high priority stuff.

    Basically, there is no reason why binding meta-something in
    key-translation-map should kill bindings for ESC. For instance, if one
    binds meta-something in global-map, this doesn't affect bindings for
    ESC.
