Funny you should mention that.  I have 


(custom-set-variables
[...]
 '(display-time-mail-balloon-show-gnus-group t)
[...]

but it's not showing anything at the moment.  It did work at one
point.

Now for some more strangeness:

I'm also noticing that not all mail is being shown by the balloon
help.  Sometimes only one mail is shown, but then I goto gnus and
there's several.  Of course, it's *possible* that the others just
arrived, but this happened several times.  Maybe it's gotten into some 
broken state.
