How very strange. When I look in my /usr/lib I see:

$ ll /usr/lib/libdb.so*
lrwxrwxrwx   1 root     root           10 Nov 22 11:19 /usr/lib/libdb.so -> libdb.so.1*
lrwxrwxrwx   1 root     root           24 Nov 22 11:19 /usr/lib/libdb.so.1 -> /usr/lib/libdb.so.1.85.4*
-rwxr-xr-x   1 root     root        62465 Apr  5  1996 /usr/lib/libdb.so.1.85.4*
lrwxrwxrwx   1 root     root           14 Nov 22 11:09 /usr/lib/libdb.so.2 -> libdb.so.2.0.0*
-rwxr-xr-x   1 bin      bin         68158 Jan  4  1996 /usr/lib/libdb.so.2.0.0*

libdb.so.2.0.0 is a very old Slackware 3.0 binary.  libdb.so.1.85.4
was built off the latest db sources of the time and is what I'm
supposed to be using.

That's probably a very bad idea ...

Sigh.

Ack! Thpppt! Anyone want to do a replacement Linux binary kit? I'm
not going to have the strength to get to it until tomorrow night or
later.
