Subject: Sun Binary Kits
Reply-To: Martin Buchholz <mrb@Eng.Sun.COM>

I think Solaris 2 binary kits should be based on Solaris 2.4, not
Solaris 2.5. In general, software should be built on the oldest
versions of an OS that are still in general use, assuming the binaries
also run on the most recent OS releases. Solaris 2.4 is the choice
that many Sun products are making for the oldest supported release,
and I think it's still the right choice.

There are similar considerations for building XEmacs on other OS'es.
We're all bleeding-edge folks here, but the users of the binary kits
often won't be.

Anyways, I volunteer to build binary kits for Solaris 2.4 on sparc and
intel, with and without sparcworks. A binary kit for SunOS 4 is also
in the works.

Martin
