Been there, done that. Well, sort of. Sometimes XEmacs would "Get It Right",
other times the recycle.xpm would show up as a solid dark green (for those
who are, it's the same dark green that one of the gnus faces used). I finally
tracked it down to allocate_nearest_color in src/objects-x.h when faced
with colormap exhaustion.

Only real "fix" for this is to hack up a "-install" (a la Netscape) or
"-owncmap" (a la xv) flag to use a private colormap. Has anybody either
(a) done this or (b) have any preferences for the name of the flag? I've
got the research on what needs doing already done, just have to hack
up the code (based on what 'xv' does, it doesn't look all that bad to
do, actually).

So - should I do it? If so, what do you all want the flag named? ;)
