I had been using 20.1b6 with good results. Today it suffered a
nervous breakdown. I was using gnus, and clicked on a URL. w3 fired
up. Then it got into a strange mode. The response to EVERY keypress,
mouse event, was "beep", while the minibuffer says:

remove-message-hook error (wrong-type-arguemtn markerp nil)

It is impossible to get out of this mode. C-g just beeps.
