I've actually used tty and X devices at the same time before and would
use more often if the Ctrl-G thing were resolved. (or has this been
fixed now?)

One thing that I do use daily is the ability to display on multiple
X devices, I leave XEmacs constantly running Gnus at home, and have
it open new frames to the machines at school. It works very well. 

I also have a completely tangental question: I'm planning on
learning japanese this summer and wondered what input method is
recommended with xemacs-20: wnn or canna?
