You might want to look at 
http://www.imaxx.net/~thrytis/glibc/
which has some information on GNU libc 2 on Linux, including links to a
HOWTO and an FAQ list. You could also ask on linux.dev.gcc (or,
equivalently, the mailing list linux-gcc@vger.rutgers.edu). 

I find it hard to believe that you can use your old XFree86 libraries with
the new libc, and according to the problems page referenced in the above
page, there is currently no version of XFree86 available which is built
against glibc 2.

On the other hand, Andreas Jaeger <aj@arthur.pfalz.de> recently posted a
message to xemacs-beta claiming that he has compiled XEmacs with glibc 2
and X support (and all the graphics libraries). So this seems to be
possible... I guess I should have a look at glibc myself, too.
