Bingo.  Backing down fixes the problem because the feature that triggers
the sit-for bug is disabled in XEmacs 20 with that lazy-lock.el version.

(The lazy-lock.el that your are talking about is not lazy-lock.el 1.15 but
lazy-lock.el 1.15 + Someone's hacks.  Whoever edited it didn't update the
Version: header comment to say, e.g., 1.15-b90 (ooh that makes me mad).)
