And Soren thinks the compiler doesn't work on Sparcs.  FWIW, I test the 
beta versions of gcc a lot more thoroughly than the SparcWorks C compiler.  
On a common platform like the Sparc, the compiler works pretty darn well.

But as you say, someone on the list really has to check these things out.  
Since I don't currently add value by writing packages, I have to earn my 
keep somehow.  BTW, the particular strength-reduce bug is long gone from 
this version of gcc, at least on this platform.
