I've got exactly the same trace as you have (for the record: Linux
2.0.28, glibc 2.0.1, i486) with --use-system-malloc.

There was some discussion on the glibc Mailinglist about using
system-malloc with emacs. I'm going to investigate the problem and
might come up with a patch in a few days (hopefully).

For the moment it should be noted that xemacs (19.15 beta92) runs with
glibc 2.0.1 with my patches and only without --use-system-malloc.
