I have this problem in general with dialogs in vtwm.  XEmacs (and other
X applications) get confused with the virtual geometry, and pop-up
dialog boxes somewhere off the entire virtual screen.

Try it when your actual screen is at the top left of the virtual screen.
That is the only time that dialog boxes appear on my screen.
