I am using 20.3 Sarajevo, with Gnus 5.5 (from xemacs.org), and the tm
and mailcrypt that come with these, and I have no problems that you
mention.

Whether I use the middle mouse, or hit `e' or `v' on the following line:

> [2 <application/pgp-signature>]

I get exactly what I expect: a *MIME-out* buffer pops up, and it gives
me the PGP output telling me about one /tmp file being a good signature
of another /tmp file, and that it is your signature.

No changes since I started using tm, which was a long time ago.

Rick, I think it is something that you have changed locally.
