Oops, sorry for that last truncated message, I think I'm having a
blonde moment.  Either that or my fingers have become dyslexic.

Anyway, footnote-mode-map being autoloaded would be nice, not sure if
this is the right solution though.  I think Karl's packages should be
rolled out to the package repository, though.
