I said in my original mail what it means. It's German for:

Major Trouble with Headers

When replying to a mail with Umlauts () the subject line gets
mangled for me and many others.

You don't seem to have this problem!

Have you set anything suspicious in your site-start.el, init.el,
options.el or .guns files, which could overcome my problem?

I would guess it could be something like transfer-level, content-type, 
default-mime-charset or similar.

Any pointers?
