(The binary I'm running now)
$ ldd /usr/src/xemacs-20.0/src/xemacs
 ...
        libcanna.so => /usr/lib/libcanna.so.1
        libRKC.so => /usr/lib/libRKC.so.1
 ...

I just installed Canna3.5b2 from (a most painful download from the US)
	ftp://ftp.nec.co.jp/pub/Canna/Canna35

and it built and installed without a hitch (Linux/libc-5.4.17/XFree86 3.2).

The only problem I had building XEmacs was that the Canna include
files (installed into /usr/local/canna/include by default) weren't
found. I made the symbolic link
ln -s /usr/local/canna/include/canna /usr/include
and the build completed.

Many of the doc strings for the canna lisp support are in (I presume)
Japanese but are not showing in XEmacs as Japanese. This is odd. The
.jp files in the Canna distribution get a `Ctext' designation on the
mode line and aren't rendered properly either (this is in the default
language environment).

I don't have a clue how to go about testing whether or not it
actually works.

Does the XEmacs Wnn support work at all? Configure says it's broken.

As do I. I'll see what I can glean from the build reports.
