2410 PAPUA NEW GUINEA: R Enga at 1246 in English with chatter by OM

announcer; ID at 1257 and fanfareby band (but not national anthem)

at 1300. Continued, possibly with Karai Service relay, until 1315*

without warning. Fair at best. Seemingly now more or less regular

     again. Nov 28 (DMC)

3235 PAPUA NEW GUINEA: R West New Britain at 1258 after native vocal

w/TC and closing ID + mention of 10 kW by OM in English, then in

Pidgin. "Good-nite everyone" and into anthem at 1300. Powerhouse

signal/no ute. Also noted R Simbu-3355 at 1255 with pops ahead of

1300* and also very strong in rare absence of ute. Nov 12 (DMC)

3264.65 SULAWESI:RRI Gorontalo suspected (as opposed to Bengkulu) the
one

     here, down from 3266.4, at 1225 w/EZL vocal & Indo YL announcer;

possibly drums ahead of unreadable OM anmts at 1229 but very weak

and fluttery signal. I believe Bengkulu continues to be on 3264.9v.

Can someone confirm? Nov 14 (DMC)

3384.92 NUSA TENGGARA: RRI Kupang fair at 1300+ with Jak news by YL thru

big open carrier after PNG-3385 1300*. News ending 1306 w/anthem,

also noted weakly on // RRI Palankaraya-3324.95. Kupang still

weak-fair at 1325 with pop vocal. No sign of Kupang on 4805.4v; a

moderate level carrier that appeared after 1300 on 4805.6 may have

been an unID Vietnamese Regional. Nov 28 (DMC)

3905 IRIAN JAYA: RRI Merauke fair but actually well-over PNG at 1207

with Jak news; Jak relay coverage extended after 1209 anthem with

possible sporting or other public interest event, //9680. Good

peak circa 1220. Nov 14 (DMC) ** Noted at good level, well over

PNG at 1201 w/Jak news+commentary until back to local pgme with

clear ID by OM at 1217 and into pop vocals. Absolutely killer

signal (best ever: S9+10db) after PNG 1300*, again with Jak news &

anthem at 1306, deep-voiced local OM with anmts and local ID. Best

Irian Jaya signal by far, given Sorong-4874.6 seemingly temporarily

      inactive. Nov 28 (DMC)

3987.12 IRIAN JAYA: RRI Manokwari unusally good with pop vocal at 1225,

cut mid-song at 1229 for local announcer & music theme; possible

ad jingles to 1231, then talk by OM. Nice peak to S7 level thru

nasty ARO spillover. Same time, Meruake-3905 was good with OM/YL

dialogue but mostly under very strong R New Ireland; Merauke still

readable at 1330+ recheck with lagu/pop vocals. Nov 12 (DMC)

4790.5 PAKISTAN: AKR (via Islamabad) still clearly audible at weak-fair

level at 1410 with talk by OM/YL, sub-continental vocal at 1413.

Had also noted R Bangladesh back on nominal 4880 but very weak

     w/YL talk at 1348. Nov 14 (DMC)

4800 INDIA: AIR Hyderabad was the longest-lasting sub-continental signal

on this amazingly extended Asian opening - still fair at 1425 with

vocal, OM anmt at 1430, then talk by YL. Rechecked and found still

audible, albeit very weak at 1504 !!) with OM, then YL talk. The

other standout was Nepal-5005.4 audible past 1430. Nov 14 (DMC)

4866.45 IRIAN JAYA: RRI Wamena (presumed) fading up fair at 1245 and
then

still in weakly at 1325 re-check with YL pop vocal. The typical

switch to 4871v circa 1300 did not happen. Nov 28 (DMC)

4910 INDIA: AIR Jaipur has clearly taken over as the best Indian
regional

on 60mb - Delhi on 4860 is not putting out the signal it used to.

Jaipur vy good when checked at 1305 with film music. Nov 14 (DMC)

5005.04 NEPAL: R Nepal just fair at typical max dawn peak w/talk and
short

domestic music bridges at 1239, // somewhat weaker 7165.25. Much

stronger, however, at 1300+ with chorals/chants, OM/YL talks
w/music

bridges at 1309+, stringed instrument ahead of 3+1 pips & "Yo Radio

Nepal ho" ID by OM followed by 15 mins of news, including item
about

Israel at 1327. Still strong across 1330 with YL talk and
occasional

fanfares. Much weaker by 1400+ but low level audio hung in on NW

Beverage for time pips at 1415, OM w/ID and news in English until

flute interlude at 1427 and still audible past 1430. Incredibly
late

opening (SR 1209), especially 6 weeks before solstice! Nov 14 (DMC)

5029.95 SARAWAK: RTM Kuching (presumed) at 1228 with EZL pop vocal,
anmts

by YL in unID lang, then into OM talk at 1230. Weak and not sure

if //7130 under strong CC signal. By 1240, Bhutan B/S had quickly

faded up to fair level, leaving RTM barely audible in the
background.

Similarly, presumed RTM Sibu-5005.15 vy weak at 1250 behind Nepal
on

     5005.04. Nov 20 (DMC)

5040 GEORGIA: Georgian Radio (presumed) with OM/YL talks until musical

tones at 1400 and into obvious news. Surprised at the fair-good

LP signal coming up 1350+. Nov 14 (DMC)

5990 MYANMAR: V of Myanmar fair at 1440 with music and talk by OM and

YL. Readable on LSB-only; stronger co-channel CIS station in
Russian

using USB mode. Still holding in very late at 1457 re-check (then

carrier only on USB) weak but enough to discern OM in English.

Fanfare across 1500 and into further talk w/audio fading, so didn't

wait for EE news now sked at 1515. Nov 14 (DMC)

7165.25 NEPAL: R Nepal fair using USB at 1305 with OM talks/short
musical

bridges to time signal and ID at 1315, then news, //stronger
5005.04.

41m channel almost buried at 1400 recheck but back up to quite

readable level again at 1448 with 60m channel almost totally gone,

     finally! Nov 14 (DMC)

9565 PAPUA NEW GUINEA: NBC Pt Moresby at 1330+ with uninterrupted Sun

evening classical music pgme until good nite wishes and closing

anmt citing this freq with 100 kW (reportedly running 50 kW) at

1359. After a pause, played national anthem to 1401*. Strong

signal here and 4890 missing on Nov 28. Per Arthur Cushen on Dec 2

RNMN, plans to switch shortly to destination 9675 freq and will run

continuous 2000-1400. Currently testing but official inaugeration

of the transmitter is to be Dec 14 and 4890 will be standby only.

We're losing all our traditional South Pacific beacons. (DMC)

9617.6 UNID:Suspect Mozambique here (via LP using a NW Beverage) at 1450

with good carrier/low audio level vocal, then OM in SS or PT at

1452, presumably the latter. Nov 14 (DMC)

AUSTRALIA: In a recent report I mistakenly made ref to the disappearance

some years ago of the Domestic SW Service out of Perth which of course

is Wanneroo (6140, 9610 & 15425) still on the air, as is Brisbane (4920,

9660), albeit both services destined to go off around Dec 16/93 per
RNMN.

It was Lyndurst (VLR-9680, VLH-11880, 15230) that I meant to say was

already gone (in 1986 I believe) and Sydney (VLI-6090) had let the air

two or three years earlier-still. I guess the most recent shutdown was

the small SSB transmitter at Darwin (1 kW) on 6840 which was replaced by

the Northern Territories "Shower Service" on 60 and 120 meters. (DMC)

AZAD KASHMIR: There was recent mention on WOR of an October BBCM item

concerning the announcement by Radio Pakistan that a new 100 kW
shortwave

transmitter is being established at Mirpur. I made an embarrasing goof

concerning this item in my World Radio Report column in the Dec/93 issue

of DX Ontario. I incorrectly stated that Mirpur is located within

Pakistan proper and thus, that AKR-3663v would remain the only
legitimate

station for logging Azad Kashmir as a discreet radio country. In fact,

the 1992 National Geographic Atlas shows that Mirpur is 10km inside the

western boundary of Azad Kashmir. So, the day is coming when A-K will

no longer be the rare radio country as we know it today. Thanks to Hans

Johnson for alerting meto this and to Tony Ward for his research

assistance. (DMC)

LOGGINGS FROM DON MOORE, Davenport, Iowa

        Kenwood R-5000, 400' mini beverage

        MOORE@TMU1.MCREST.EDU

2010 MEXICO: 3x670 harmonic (presumedly) 1105-1158 12/3 w/ ads,

Xmas anmts, ranchera mx, UTC-6 TCs. ID seems like XEUB,

although last letter could be something like P or V as well.

Nothing with this call listed in WRTH. Perhaps new Mexican

        stn. Fair. (Don Moore)

2020 UNID 2x1010 harmonic 0057-0140 11/29 w/ ads, hard rock mx,

UTC-6 TC. Very poor. Again 1158-1203 12/3 again very poor w/

hard rock. Hard rock at this time of the morning indicates

this is probably in a major urban area. Small town/city Latin

AMers are very unlikely to play hard rock this early in the

        morning. (Don Moore)

2720 USA: WBLC, Lenoir City, TN 1219-1224 12/3 Obviously this stn

w/ ad for a store on Hwy 11 between Philadelphia & Sweetwater

        - all three of which are in the Lenoir City area. Poor

signal. Didn't check my records, but believe I've hrd this

        on harmonic before. (Don Moore)

2800 UNID 2x1400 domestic harmonic 1203-1207 12/3 w/ C&W mx. Poor.

        (Don Moore)

3160 USA: WAGC, Centre, AL 1209-1214 12/3 w/ USA new Sports, ads,

several clear IDs, Uof Alabama football promo, into school

lunch menus. Good signal. (Don Moore)

IMPORTANT NOTE ON ABOVE DOMESTIC HARMONIC LOGGINGS: Please do

***NOT*** call these stations (WBLC & WAGC) and tell them

about the harmonics. Neither station's harmonic is on a

frequency where they are interfering with distress or other

live-saving communications. If the stations don't know about

the harmonics, they will remain on longer and give more DXers

a chance to log them. Obviously these stations are unwilling

to hire competent engineering help, or they wouldn't be

putting out harmonics that can be heard hundreds of miles

away. If they get in trouble with the FCC, that's their

        problem.

4815 BRAZIL: Rdif Londrina 0110-0135 11/24 w/ SPANISH evangelical

pgm (giving address in Buenos Aires) to 0129, then switch to

Port w/ ID, ads. Fair. Thought I had a new station until

they switched to Port! (Don Moore)

4825 GUATEMALA: Radio Mam 1243-1303 11/29 Presumed this one w/

in mix of Span & Guat Indian lang (assumedly Mam). Lite pop mx

in pgm "Canciones Para Recordar" w/ youth-oriented rel

messages. Good signal. Noted several other days around this

time and a bit earlier. S/on is now obviously earlier than

previous 1300 which should give those in eastern NAm a better

shot at this one. (Don Moore)

4959.9 DOM REP: Radio Cima 0952-1018 11/24 trop mx to 0958, then ID &

national anthem, into pgm "Mexico en Cima" with ranchera mx.

        Fair. (Don Moore)

6065 COLOMBIA: Super Radio 1018-1041 11/24 long ad string,

including Cafe Aguila Roja. PSA to get car exhaust systems

checked for air pollution. Into nx talk. Excellant signal.

        (Don Moore)

Following log is from Manuel Rodriguez Lanza in THE RADIO NEWS

#12, with some added comments from me.

4323 R.Paz, Honduras. 11/21 1113-1203 33333

Folk mx. Some talks in k'ekchi(?). ... (MRL)

NOTE FROM DON MOORE: They would presumedly not be using K'ekchi

or any related Mayan tongue in Honduras, as no Mayan langs

are spoken in Honduras. If this is the same station as "Radio

Litoral, La Voz de la Esperanza" rpted in DXSF, it would be

Lenca (a non-Mayan lang) which is spoken in the area around

La Esperanza. However, La Esperanza is at 6,000 feet in the

most remote mountainous region of Honduras and "Litoral" means

"coastal plain". Doesn't make much sense. They could be using

"La Esperanza" or "hope" in a religious way, rather than as

        a location.
