nuages version 4.0 Dec 8 1993
________________________________________________________________

This is version 4.0 of nuages, a tool for 3D reconstruction from
parallel cross-sections.

Input : a set of simple closed polygons on parallel planes.
----- There may be several (nested) polygons per plane.

Output: A set of triangles representing the surface of a 3D poly-
------ hedra, and/or a set of tetrahedra filling the 3D polyhedra.
The program adds vertices onto and inside the contours.

How to display the output?
-------------------------
The program currently supports wavefront .obj format, DXF format
and Object File Format (.off) format.
The latter can be visualized with geomview on sgi and NeXT.
Geomview is available on anonymous ftp at geom.umn.edu.

Conversion tools to other file formats can be found on
the 3D object site avalon.chinalake.navy.mil.

How to get input data ?
-----------------------
The input format is a simple ascii file (see man prepros
for a format description). Several contour sets can be found
on this server (betelgeuse.inria.fr) in pub/Contours. There is
also a conversion tool that can read the contour format
used at NASA.

Contents
--------

You will find the following directories:

man Contains the man pages.
bin Contains the executables and the shell script "nuages".
examples Contains a contour file.

Edit the file bin/nuages and set the variable bin to the
directory where the binaries are installed.

Try cd examples
     ../bin/nuages pelvis.cnt -tri pelvis.obj

Bibliography
------------

diagnosis and surgical planning.

et Automatique, (France), Dec 1993.

Changes
-------

The file CHANGES contains all changes made to the programs since
version 4.0.
