TURBO BROWSER

INTRODUCTION:
------------
Turbo Browser is designed to browse folders with large number of files and images such as those on network file servers that contain tens of thousands of files or even hundreds of thousands of files. Most file browsers and file managers would choke or even die when navigating across these folders.

I decided to develop Turbo Browser after evaluating many different file browsers but found none of them could be capable of displaying files in one of my network folders that had more than 120,000 files in a reasonable amount of time, including the Windows Explorer. What else? Upon navigating across these large folders, all of the file browsers I tested would not display a status gauge or any kind of feedback indicating of whether it was still reading files or choked up. I would rather know if its still working and the reading status so I can decide to wait or kill the process.

The Icon Extractor is a must for software developers, graphics designers, anyone who works with icons. There are lots of icons hidden in resource files such as DLLs, EXEs, in the Windows folder. Turbo Browser can extract icons from these files and save them as ICO files ranging in size from 16x16 to 256x256. Of course BMPs, JPGs, PNGs, GIFs, can also be used in most projects. However, please keep in mind that they are not the same as ICOs. An icon has an image and an associated mask that make them transparent on any background. For this reason, an icon looks much better than a similar graphic file for certain purposes.

I kind of miss the File Managers MDI feature of the Windows 3.x where it had both the source and destination folders in a single window for easy files copying & moving. With Windows Explorer, I normally have to open 2 instances of File Explorer to copy or move files or I will have to do a lot of scrolling with just one instance. This is where the convenience of a dual-pane file manager comes in. The source and destination folders are right there upon launching Turbo Browser.

Another thing that bugged me every time I used the Windows Explorer is it did not remember all the settings such as window location, size, columns with, etc. Turbo Browser retains all the last settings for you so you dont have to keep resizing the window and adjusting the columns to your liking.

Another convenient feature of Turbo Browser is folder bookmarking. With a simple click, the program remembers your folders so you can recall them later with a couple of mouse clicks. This is a great feature for folks who frequently drill down to sub folders many level deep to update files at another location. For example, I need to update the published code of Turbo Browser on a regular basis from one location to another, the source folder is "H:\DataStorage\SourceCodes\Data\Projects\C#2008\TurboBrowser\bin\Release" and the destination folder is "M:\Inetpub\wwwroot\CD Software Solutions", I simply click the bookmark icon on the main toolbar and the program will remember the upper and lower folder. Later on, I can recall these 2 folders with only 2 clicks. Imagine the steps you have to take to accomplish this task without this handy feature.

There a times when you only want to see certain files in a folder with large number of files, its not possible to have the Windows File Explorer to display only files with a specific extension, but you can do this easily with Turbo Browser with a simple click of the drop down box that contains all the file extensions for a specific folder.
