Various utility programs are distributed with XIT.

IDENTIFIER
To start: load the file identifier

The identifier is used to select a window and to bind it to a variable
(default: me) for further inspection or debugging. To identify a
window first click left on the identifier button. An XORed frame will
then appear, changing when you move the mouse. Click again when you
have identified the desired window.

MOUSE-DOCUMENTATION
To start: load the file mouse-documentation

The mouse-documentation is used to continuously presenting the
currently available mouse (or keyboard) interactions in a mouse
documentation line. The information given may partly be generated
automatically from the description of the interaction objects.

RESOURCE-SHEET
To start: load the file make-resource-sheet

The resource sheet is used to view and to edit simple properties of
XIT windows, i.e. position, size, border width, and the colors for
foreground, background and border. Colors may be specified by calling
a color defining sheet (see below). Changed properties may be written
to a file in form of CLUE resource definitions. Usage of the
mouse-documentation is recommended.

COLOR-SHEET
To start: load the file make-color-sheet

The color sheet is used to change the colors (background, foreground,
border) of a window. Several ways of entering a desired color are
provided. First, a known color name (as defined by the X windows rgb
file) can be entered by keyboard. Second, a color already used by
another window can be copied. Finally, the color can be mixed by
manipulating two triples of sliders defining the color by its RGB and
its HSB values. In this case the color is automatically "rounded" to
its nearest predefined value and the corresponding name is presented.
Usage of the mouse-documentation is recommended.
