Did you ever want to mount a drive exported by Windows for Workgroups
or LanServer (LanManager, Windows NT, or whatever)? Then this package
is for you!

This is the fourth alpha release of my smbfs. I got it to work with
kernel 1.1.94, so it should work with 1.2 when it comes out. It
definitely does not work with kernels lower than 1.1.57, because with
1.1.57 an internal filesystem function has changed. This has to be
reflected in userfs, which has not happened yet.

If you do not know the acronym smb, it is the protocol by which
wfw computers communicate, so you now can mount drives wfw exports to
you. You can obtain information on smb from nimbus.anu.edu.au in
/pub/tridge/samba/ .

This release of smbfs is based on userfs-0.8.1, which was written by
Jeremy Fitzhardinge <jeremy@sw.oz.au>. This package contains the
essential parts of userfs. I had to change the protocol, so it will
not work together with other userfs clients.

With this system you should be careful, I could not really test it
under heavy conditions, like many processes connecting to it, or
really big filesystems. But nobody has reported any problems, once it
worked.

So, have fun with it and tell me about it!
