n-1-3-002.01 PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE Dear Internauts: As the summer draws to a close, we can look back on an extremely successful INET92 Conference in Kobe, Japan. The general chairman, Prof. Hideo Aiso, the program chairman, Prof. Haruhisa Ishida and the local arrangements chair, Prof. Jun Marai, together with what appeared to be a hundred volunteers, deserve great credit and the gratitude of the Internet Society for a very effective meeting. The Board of Trustees met during this conference and took a number of important actions: (1) Creation of the Internet Architecture Board (IAB) and incorporation of IETF and IRTF operations under the auspices of the Internet Society. (2) Appointment of Mr. Kees Neggers to the Board of Trustees. Mr. Neggers is president of Surfnet in the Netherlands. (3) Adoption of a 1992 budget. (4) Appointment of Mr. Mike Roberts to serve as Executive Director. (5) Approval of executive, developing countries, disaster relief coordination, elections, and nominations committees. (6) Approval of motions to establish formal relations with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and its International Telegraph and Telephone Consultative Committee (CCITT) (7) Formal adoption and signing of the Charter and By-Laws of the Internet Society. INET93 planning is in progress under the able direction of Mr. Eric Benhamou, president of 3COM. The program committee co-chairs, Dr. Barry Leiner and Mr. William Yundt are well along in their work. The Internet Society Advisory Council also met in Kobe under the interim chairmanship of Mr. Lee Caldwell of Novell.
